About Us
The Groove Essentials is a project formed by Evan Fiehrer in 2025 after he received an Artist Opportunity Grant from Culture Works Dayton. His proposal was to write, record, produce, and perform an album of original music inspired by the tradition of funk music in Dayton, Ohio. The result of that project is The Groove Essentials’ first album, A Little Light, which was released on October 24, 2025. The album release party was held at The Tank at The Dayton Arcade. Since then, the Groove Essentials have performed in the Dayton area, including at the 2026 Dayton Battle of the Bands at The Brightside. The Groove Essentials are Evan Fiehrer on guitar, Hayden Floro on drums, Tory James on vocals, James Roberts on keyboard, and Jelani Stokes on bass.
